Kent Havoc women’s team to host first annual prom dress rugby game
To mark the wind-up of this year’s women’s developmental rugby program
in southwestern
Players will wear prom dresses during the game at the post game social.
Date:
Saturday, August 23rd, 2008
What is prom dress rugby?
The game will be played as usual (full contact, full scrums and lifting
in the line outs) with unlimited substitutions and over 19 rules.
If teams do not show up with their full 15’s, then the teams will be
made of a mix of players, depending on their position (the same as the
southwestern league has been doing this past season). Depending on
numbers, we may play a full 15s, 10s or 7s. The total playing time
will equal 80 minutes.
The players must wear proper rugby gear (cleats, mouth guard and shorts)
with a dress over top. The dress must be cut at the knees.
Poofy sleeves are recommended but not required. An up-do and
sequins are allowed, but remember, no metal is to be worn on the pitch.
Players are encouraged to bring scissors and duct tape to “alter” their
dress for the day’s event.
Who can play?
All players must be fully and properly registered with the ORU.
Any player NOT registered will invalidate the insurance for all players
on the pitch and therefore make the game unsanctioned.
The games will be played with all ages in one mix if there are not
enough under 19 players to make up two teams. Therefore, all under
19 players must be properly registered to play in an over 19 game.
Please speak to Fran Mason --
rugbyregisteration@osrc.com
-- at the ORU for more information.
Any players that are coming from out of country must be approved for
play by their home union and this approval must be supplied to Rugby
If there are any individuals that are interested in playing but are not
registered, they may register as a “visitor” by checking the box on the
top right of the ORU registration form. This way of registration
covers a player for two weeks and only costs $35. As a reminder,
if the player is under 19 years of age, she still must completely
register in order to “play up” on a woman’s game.
Coaches, please send a list of all your registered players to help make
the registration process quick and efficient.
What will the Social be like?
The post-game events will take part at Jerseys Sports Bar. You are
welcome to order your own meal, as only a small spread will be provided.
The award for Bitch of the Pitch and Best Dressed will then be handed
out, followed by other rugby social activities.
We would like for you to stay for the social event, but the sports bar
becomes a real bar at 10pm. After 10, only patrons 19 and over may
stay. Under the premise of “safety first”, there is a hotel right
next door to the bar, the Wheels Inn.

Rugby Canada has provided Kent Havoc RFC with a great opportunity to make a significant impact within our community by providing them with a once in a lifetime international sporting event. We are receiving an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from the Municipality, and their full commitment to aid us in every way possible.
